Mirjana Karanović is a Serbian actress, film director and screenwriter. Considered one of the best Serbian and Yugoslavian actresses of all time, she is probably the best known for her performance in her debut film Petria’s Wreath (Petrijin venac, S. Karanović, 1980), as well as for her frequent collaborations with film directors Emir Kusturica and Jasmila Žbanić. Karanović received international acclaim and a nomination for the European Film Award for Best Actress for her role in Grbavica: The Land of My Dreams (Grbavica, J. Žbanić, 2006). In 2016, Mirjana Karanović made her director’s debut: her film A Good Wife was shown in the World Cinema Dramatic Competition section at the prestigious international festival Sundance. It has been screened at over 40 festivals around the world and has won numerous awards.
