Martin Turk

Martin Turk was born in 1978 in Trieste, Italy, and graduated from the Ljubljana Film Academy. He is alumni of Cannes Cinefondation Residence (2009). His short films include "A SLICE OF LIFE" (Premiers Plans d'Angers, Best Slovenian Short Film 2006), "EVERY DAY IS NOT THE SAME" (Cannes Directors' Fortnight 2008), "STEALING THE CORN" (Palm Springs International ShortFest, 2010), "A WELL-SPENT AFTERNOON" (Oberhausen SFF, Promotional Award Children's Film Competition, 2016), and "AROUND THE CORNER" (Uppsala SFF, 2023). His feature films include "FEED ME WITH YOUR WORDS" (Tallinn Black Nights, 2012), "GOOD DAY’S WORK" (Busan IFF, 2018) and "DON’T FORGET TO BREATHE" (Rome IFF – Alice nella Citta, 2019). His latest project, the playful docu-fiction hybrid The Volta Cinema, premiered at the Trieste Film Festival in 2024. The film won Best Feature Film at the Bloomsday Film Festival and received the Art Cinema Network of Slovenia Award at the Festival of Slovenian Films in 2024.

Bela Film was established in 1998 and has since become one of Slovenia's leading production companies. Its track record include over 35 titles, primarily art-house feature films, creative documentaries, and shorts that have been presented at numerous festivals, including Berlinale, Cannes, Clermont-Ferrand, and IDFA. Company is led by Ida Weiss (ACE, EAVE, EWA, and EFA member). Her recent productions include the short films "Around The Corner" (featured in over thirty festivals, including Uppsala SFF, 2023) and "Sports Day" (Premiers Plans d'Angers, 2024), as well as the children's feature film "Beanie" (featured in over thirty festivals, including Cinekid 2022, with more than 120,000 cinema admissions in Slovenia, Croatia, Slovakia, and Luxembourg).
